Warner Power’s new White Paper Reducing Energy Losses in Low-Voltage, Dry-Type, 3-phase Distribution Transformers highlights how a typical distribution transformer, meeting Federal Standards, can still cost its owner 7 times its capital value, in lifetime energy losses. ‘Legacy’ transformers in the field, are shown to be even worse, with a lifetime cost of ownership 40% higher still.
This White Paper discusses the key role of transformer ‘core losses’ which become predominant when operating at the low power levels often seen in today’s buildings, as highlighted in recent studies. White Paper author and Warner Power Senior VP Peter Amos says, “As energy savings schemes really start to kick-in, with buildings becoming more and more efficient, we all need to look at the distribution transformer losses, which will become increasingly significant and objectionable in the future”.
Warner Power’s Hexaformer® and SmarTran® energy-saving solutions are discussed, indicating energy savings close to 50% compared to today’s Federal Standard and almost two thirds lower than ‘legacy transformers’.
